Use the tools at your fingertips. Social media is a great place to begin networking. Howington writes, Once you have your social media profiles cleaned up and professional, use them to make connections and reach out to find hidden jobs. And use social media groups like those on LinkedIn for great networking opportunities. Try finding other military spouses in your area who are also looking to network and start your own group. Start close to home. The military is taking measures of bringing  military-friendly employers  to you. Having an opportunity to attend can be a great way to make more connections, as well as investigate companies you may have never thought of working for and that understand military lifestyle challenges, says Howington. Or in your local community, look for networking groups on Meetup, or attend career fairs hosted in the area. Network during your current activities. Networking doesnt need to be a formal or official event. If you volunteer or are part of groups like book clubs, the PTA, or any other group activities, casually bring up your job interests in those environments. The point of networking is to get the word out about your job search, and informal occasions like these are a great place to start. The best part is, youre usually surrounded by helpful people or even your friends, so the pressure isnt too high. Use military-sponsored resources. Howington recommends visiting family support centers and education offices on base/post. The military support services offered to spouses and families are abundant, so use them! Education offices and family support centers are great starting points for getting information on career development and on-base/post functions for military spouses and their careers.
